Avian Fashion offers the FlightSuit, a bird garment designed to contain bird droppings. According to company spokeswoman Lorraine Moore, FlightSuits allow bird owners to take birds more places when used in conjunction with the coordinating leash (www.birddiaper.com).

"It allows better socialization because people don't have to worry about getting clothing and carpeting soiled," she says.

Available in a variety of fabrics and colors, the washable FlightSuits fasten with a Velcro strip on the back. The patented Poop Pouch catches the droppings and keeps them safely away from the bird when used according to directions. Garments are available for birds ranging in size from budgies to green-winged macaws.

Birds with strong, trusting relationships with their human companions adapt best to the suits, according to Moore. She recommends introducing the suits early to young, domestically bred, hand-raised birds. When fitting a bird with any garment, be sure it does not compress the chest or restrict the wings.

Moore suggests using a FlightSuit whenever a bird comes out of the cage.

"It's positive reinforcement," she says. "The bird will learn to associate it with freedom."
